The Stars

Right now, I am really loving this song - California Stars by Wilco and Billy Bragg. This laid back melody always makes me feel good. I hope it makes you feel good too :)

We had a very busy weekend (when is a weekend not ever busy?). I've included a few shots I took at Cherry Beach (the stars were definitely in alignment, as I was actually at the beach for the entire 15 minutes of sunshine we had). These were really difficult pictures to take as it was incredibly windy and my ranuculus were blowing all over the place (not to mention my crazy hair whipping about with no ponytail holder). I had to move fast, but it was worth the mad dash out there.

I'm now off to hunt through my pile of cookbooks. I'm hosting book club tomorrow evening and have no idea what to make. If you have any awesome recipes (I'll be serving a group of 8 girls) please do share!

Etsy Finds

The vortex brooch by Ingermaaike. I couldn't believe my luck when I stumbled upon this gorgeous hand-felted pin. The photo doesn't even come close to capturing how pretty and vibrant it really is.

Another reason to love fall?
Accessories.

hats
scarves
gloves
brooches
suede boots
and
handbags

I love them all.

Under a Blue Sky

Feeling sick, tired, and overwhelmed can get to you sometimes, but I'm beginning to feel a little better. Mark is back home and I even got to go for a run this morning which always helps to clear my mind.

I've also gone and done it.

I've opened up a new photography shop on Etsy and closed puddlejumpers . I will be adding listings over the next few days and will have to make some decisions on businesss cards, banners, packaging, and avatars.

Wish me a little luck.

Hope you all are well!

Back in the Saddle

....but not quite.

I'm having difficulty finding the time to create new designs. This is a result of the general busy-ness of life, the busy-ness of trying to spruce up the house to put it on the market, and a husband who has been away on multiple business trips over the past few weeks.

I'm also coming down with a bad cold and feeling rather out of it. I lost complete patience with the boys today and feel terrible about it. I always worry about how they will remember me? Stressed out mommy or fun mommy? Today, I was not a fun mommy.

But there is good news - I did manage to reply to some convos, work on a custom order, and make a couple of new things which I hope to post later on in the week. It's a start.

I'm off to drink a cup of lemon tea.
Then collapse into bed.

Wishing you all the sweetest of dreams.

Happy Thanksgiving

A Canadian Thanksgiving that is :)

Here are some scenes from our ramble along the Leslie Stree Spit this morning.

The 'Spit' is one of my favourite places in Toronto. Usually I run along its paths, but today I decided to slow down and just walk. The crickets were out in full force this morning and it was glorious to hear. I've been coming here since I was a child and I hope my boys will love this place as much as I do.

Today we are thankful for such a beautiful day.
The song of the crickets.
Our health.
Our loved ones.

Adaptation

I'm a bookworm. I like to read. Alot. When I read a good book I usually do not like to see it portrayed on the big screen. I now forever associate Atonement with Keira Knightly and it is just - well, irritating. Most often, I find filmmakers are unable to capture the true essence of a novel, the beautiful nuances, all the little details.

Last night, was the exception to the rule. I saw Blindness.

Blindness is a novel I read a few years ago. Written by Nobel Prize winner Jose Saramago, it is a haunting exploration of the human condition which includes both the good and the very very bad. Civilization is struck by an infectious disease where all are cast into a "white" blindness. Only one woman can see and is a witness to the ensuing horror. It is extremely well written and despite its darkness (it is indeed very dark), remains one of my favourite novels.

Directed by Fernando Meirelles (City of God) and screenplay adapatation by Canada's very own Don McKellar, the movie remains startling true to the book. The movie was also visually stunning - full of surreal images of light and darkness, black and white. The acting, superb.

Here's the trailer......

I hightly recommend both the book and the film!

Tagged!

I've just been tagged by the amazing Lorelei. Please do take a peek at her wonderful blog.

The rules?
1. Link to your tagger and list these rules on your blog.
2. Share 7 facts about yourself on your blog - some random, some weird.
3. Tag 7 people at the end of your post by leaving their names as well as links to their blog.
4. Let them know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

Some facts about me:

1. I'm very VERY shy.
2. I'm an intense creature of habit. Would you believe I've been eating the same sandwich for lunch everyday for years? Yes. Years. I come by this naturally as my father does this too.
3. I'm extremely competitive (to my detriment) and a perfectionist (also to my detriment - it keeps me awake most nights).
4. I asked Mark out on our first date which was an 8km road race.
5. I make a mean chicken curry.
6. I love a good game of poker. In certain circles, I'm known as sharklene.
7. I have no problem naming every piece of jewelry I make, but I am unable to dream up a creative name for my shop. This drives me crazy.

The Why

Why I love fall.....

I also love Toronto. My home. This city full of parks and ravines
begging to be explored.

Today, we wandered through Edwards Gardens under a beautiful October sun.

Who wants to stay in the house packing boxes all day? Not I. I'm hoping for rain tomorrow (but not really).
