The Gift

I just received this over the weekend.

My present has finally arrived . A portrait of my beautiful little boys painted by the talented Theresa Maxwell. I first met Theresa during the Beach Studio Tour and was immediately taken with her work. All of her work. Her effortless brushstrokes, rich in colour, full of shadow and light, immediately made my heart skip a beat or two.

My mother and sister (oh they are clever, thoughtful girls) commissioned Theresa for this piece to be done for my birthday. I sent her a few photographs I thought might work, and am completely in awe of the final result. I've spent hours just staring at it. I wish I could describe to you how much better it is in person, but words right now are failing me. The jpeg will have to suffice.

I will treasure this always.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!

Perfect in Every Way Except

I saw Where the Wild Things Are this weekend.

It was heartbreaking, beautiful, and wonderful.

It was perfect in every way except this is not a movie for young children. My mistake. I sat completely riveted to the screen, while my little guys were bored and confused - wondering what happened to their bedtime story. How did it get so heavy?

Sorry little guys. Maybe in fifteen years or so you will learn to love this weird movie your mother insisted on seeing. Maybe one day you will know why she cried.

Here's a new addition to the shop..........

My Little Beach Bum

This little guy is going to start Junior Kindergarten next week.
I think we are both ready.
I will miss our afternoons together.
I can already feel the sting of tears I will shed on this first, important day of days.
But, I know he needs this as much as I do.

For the first time in 6 years, I will have five afternoons each week to work while both boys are at school - two of which will be devoted to errands, chores and renovations, while the other two will be set aside for Etsy, and one, just one, for me.

Only 7 more sleeps.

I Heard the Song of the Crickets

a song of summer
so pure
so true
the wind whispered
gently
I felt the grass
caress my cheek
And so I surrendered
for awhile

Have a wonderful weekend!
I'll see you on Monday.
