This Place

I love, love this place. It's a beautiful place. A place, where you can let your thoughts roam, listen to the song of the birds, and escape the frenetic buzz of the city.

I've been coming here for years. As a child, I used to cycle its paths. As an adult, I've logged many a mile - training for marathons, walking, thinking, reflecting, photographing. I even came here alone on the morning of my wedding day.

And I will miss it so.

We've been grappling with the idea of a move for awhile now. We are out of space. The boys require better schools. I would love to set up a proper studio. So it looks like we are headed to suburbia. We're planning on putting the house up for sale next month and we'll see what happens. It's exciting and terrifying. It's going to be a big change.

Do you have a favourite place you always return to?
I'd love to hear about it!

Here is a view of the spit, taken from Cherry Beach.

Wow, the suburbs! I've heard good things about Oakville, so you are off to a good start. I can't even wrap my head around the idea of leaving Toronto, unless I was leaving the province or the country entirely.

Just like you, I was born and raised in Toronto and have lived here most of my life, aside for a 5-yr stint in Greece and a 6-month stay in Scarborough (yuck to the latter!)

Well C, I'm all for better schools and bigger studios. Keep us up to date on how it all progresses.

p.s. the place I like to keep returning to is a specific beach on an Greek island that I recall playing at as a child

Wow! I love this photo of your special place. It's so understated, but so strong. It feels full - like how the air feels when the humidity is high - full with something you can feel rather than see. What a special place, indeed.

Good luck with your move.

I'm sure there is a Greek family out there that would be happy to adopt you! LOL! James Chatto the Canadian food critic and writer lived on a Greek island for many years and in one of his novels (The Greek for Love: A Memoir Of Sorrow And Joy) talks about how welcoming the natives on the island were and how he instantly became "Greek" to them once he had his first born and chose a Greek godfather to baptize his child. It's actually a very touching depiction of ex-patriots starting a new life on a Greek island (Corfu). Would you like to be adopted? :)

By the way, your photo of the lake is so stunning!
