Yesterday, I had coffee with an artist-friend and we discussed the dreaded artist statement. I consider myself a fairly intelligent person and yet, I have a hard time understanding many of the artist statements out there. Lots of interesting adjectives and other contrived jargon leave me feeling lost. Is an artist statement meant to intimidate or confuse? I just don't get it.
