The Weekend

I had the pleasure of photographing my niece's first communion this weekend.
When I look at these photos I can't help but feel a little guilty that I'm unable to do this for my own children. I've learned from past experience it is best to just "let it go" and experience the fun of the day without obsessing over documentation and camera angles.

Motherhood and guilt.
These two get along so well together.

I'd also like to thank everyone who came out to see me at West Elm on Saturday. The event was so much fun and I was pleasantly surprised by the overwhelming turnout. Thank you thank you!

I'm happy you made the comment about just watching your boys sometimes rather than shooting it all. Some of the parents at school were mad because they couldn't film the May plays (The school sells a video, well made, etc.), and I always wonder why they don't want to watch their child with their own eyes rather than staring at the camera. Yes, I understand documenting stuff, but you just hit the nail on the head about special times to just be in the moment and watch 'live'.

I know!!! At Ryan's first communion the priest and the school stressed "no pictures" during mass and yet people are still itching to snap/record away and do so regardless.

I have plenty of everyday pictures of the kids, but actually very few birthday/major event photos. Hopefully they'll understand when they get older. I turn into a robot when I'm behind the lens and it is impossible for me to pay attention to anything else... so I do my best to put it away and not worry about it.
